Registered Building Inspectors
Who are we and what do we do?

A protected profession
Only RBI's who are registered with the Building Safety Regulator can undertake what are referred to as 'restricted activities and functions'.
These are detailed in legislation, but can only be undertaken by a competent RBI registered for the appropriate class of the work.

Class 1
Trainee
Must only work under supervision of a Class 2 or Class 3 RBI.
This class is suitable for anyone new to the profession who is undergoing training.
Class 3
Specialist Building Inspector
Can work unsupervised on projects within the categories for which they are registered.
This does include 'non-standard' and higher-risk buildings (category H).
Class 2
Building Inspector
Can work unsupervised on projects within the categories for which they are registered.
This does not include 'non-standard' buildings or higher-risk buildings.
Class 4
Technical Manager
Class 2 or Class 3 RBI's with additional responsibilities for technical management of teams and processes.
Must only undertake activities and functions within class of registration.
RBI's will also be registered for either 'plan assessment', 'site inspections' or both. Please check the register for confirmation.
